Another new band?

As mentioned previously, I recorded Chris Ezelle's latest CD at the house here. I played drums and a few keyboards on it. Chris sends it to Flagpole hoping they'll give it a passing mention and maybe good marks. I guess Chris should have included a press release because what came out in Flagpole was a little unexpected.

"Former bandmates Jonathan Potter (ex-Soundtrack Mind) and Chris Ezelle have formed Angel Wings, and the 10-track disc they slipped me displays a sound similar at times to a harder, rougher-edged Belle & Sebastian, and at other times they sound like a basement-dwelling Sebadoh. It's all very good." - Flagpole Magazine, Oct. 19, 2005

Technically the disk is Chris' solo project and the album is titled "Backbones and Angel Wings", but who are we to argue with good press! I think we'll just go with it. Angel Wings sounds fine to us. Call it good!

Show at the Arch

In case you haven't heard, I'm playing bass for UGA's Terry College of Business house band, L.A. these days. We recently played a fund-raiser to benefit breast cancer research at the Arch bar. It's a pretty neat joint nestled between Nowhere Bar and the Basil Press (which may no longer be the Basil Press - I think it may be something else now) It was a fun show, but I'm afraid I've got no pictures to share. Consider my blog UPDATED.

Silliness

Read this jewel...

From: The Boss
Subject: School Closing Monday and Tuesday September 26 and 27

At 3 PM this afternoon the Governor in a statewide conference call asked all schools to close on Monday and Tuesday. The Clarke County School District will join systems across the state in closing school to conserve fuel from the anticipated results of Hurricane Rita. Oil refineries in the Houston area have closed which will interrupt fuel production for approximately four days.

The Governor has also asked everyone to restrict travel during this time to save fuel reserves. Your cooperation would be appreciated.

++++++++++++++

My thoughts,

Might this be a slight indication of America's dependence on oil? Nah, that's hyperbole. For what purpose are these people elected? Isn't one of the goals of government to prevent such backwards trash? Did a hurricane in Texas cause school outages for kids in Georgia 60 years ago? Twenty first century, here we come with no failsafe in place. Yeah!

While this move from the Governor will probably be hailed as great planning (and I'm sure his hands are somewhat tied when it comes to alleviating the country's energy dependency to say the least), I maintain that this bandaid on a gunshot wound should not be applauded, but serve as a much needed wakeup call for a spoiled citizenry.

We rock the living room

I have just finished recording and mixing my pal Chris Ezelle's new album. Chris was gracious enough to let me do a little drumming on a few of the songs. I also put a few other surprises on there, but I won't ruin it for you.

He plans to release the CD sometime around December so stay tuned.

OMG! Microsoft has officially relased the next gen Xbox!

Not to rain on the parade of my excited IT friends, but sounds like more trash for the landfill to me. Go Microsoft!

Jinny Gets Award

Jinny is modest. At her work, she won a highly regarded award but won't tell anybody because she considers that bragging.

To Jinny's displeasure, I'm sure, I love to brag. So here it is world; Jinny is this quarter's Achievement Award Winner at the Terry College of Business. How bad is that? She got a lovely plaque, an awards banquet and got to shake Dean Benson's hand. In case it isn't obvious, I am very proud of her. Go Jinny.

Visit from Avery

My sister Avery has taken a winter job in Potsdam, New York. She's been up there fighting extreme weather since February 2005. Lucky her, she came down south for Easter and a dose of spring pollen. It was nice to see Avery and she says it was nice to see the family. But... after it was all said and done, she now knows that 3 days at home are not worth a $375 plane ticket. I agree with Avery. Remember kids, book ahead.

The photo below was taken during the Potter Christmas blowout 2005 when Avery made me drive through a North Georgia 'safari'. The picture was snapped right before I kissed the cow.
